This guide is written for any crystal bracelet in the collection: Green Aventurine, Red Jasper, agate, jade, obsidian, or whatever you're wearing. The routine is the same; only the water question depends on the stone.
Why bother at all?
A bracelet rides through busy rooms, other people's moods, and long days. Cleansing is just the habit of letting it return to neutral. Charging is the step where you point it at what you actually want more of. Some people do it monthly; some only when the bracelet feels "off." There's no wrong rhythm, and no requirement that you believe in any of it. It's a small, repeatable way to make the object feel yours.
The 5 ways to cleanse
Method | How | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Water (quick rinse) | Hold under cool running water a few seconds, only if your stone is water-safe. | Quartz-family stones (clear quartz, amethyst, most aventurines and agates) tolerate a brief rinse. Softer or porous stones (selenite, calcite, raw/unsealed pieces) should stay dry. The cord is the catch either way; see below. |
Moonlight | Windowsill overnight, especially near a full moon. No direct sun. | Soft, passive, zero effort. Safe for every bracelet. |
Sound | Singing bowl, gentle bell, or a calm track for a minute. | Vibration, not magic. Safe for everything. |
Smoke | Pass through light incense or sage smoke. | Optional; skip if smoke isn't your space. |
Intention | Hold it, eyes closed a second: "I'm clearing this and starting fresh." | No tools. This is the whole method. |
For the backstory on what a given stone means, and the element behind it, the Crystal Bracelet Meanings guide covers the whole collection.
What NOT to do
This is the part that actually protects your bracelet, because the bead is tough and the string is not.
- Don't soak it in water. A quick rinse is fine for water-safe stones; a bowl soak for an hour quietly stretches or snaps the elastic. When in doubt about the stone, skip water entirely; moonlight, sound, smoke, and intention are safe for all of them.
- Don't bake it in direct sun for hours. Soft morning light is lovely; a midday windowsill is not (and some stones fade).
- Skip the chemicals: no jewelry cleaner, no soap bath. Plain water (if the stone allows) or none.
- Be gentle with the beads. They're natural, so no two are alike, and a soft cloth is all the polishing they need.
How to "charge" it
Cleansing empties the glass; charging fills it with your thing.
- Hold it a moment when you put it on and think one line: "I'm open to new opportunities," or "I'm staying steady."
- Rest it in soft morning light for a few minutes.
- Or just wear it with a clear head. Putting it on on purpose is the charge.
Which wrist?
Common gentle guidance: put "receiving" stones, the ones you want to take in (calm, opportunity, growth), on your left wrist, the side energy enters. Put "projecting" stones (courage, focus, action) on the right. Green Aventurine, a Wood / growth stone, often lands on the left; a Fire stone like Red Jasper often feels right on the right.
But don't overthink it. It's a suggestion, not a rule. Wear it where it feels right and you'll actually keep it on, which matters more than the wrist.
